White Paper No. 1 | Youth and Civic Engagement in the Philippines

ABSTRACT | All over the world, the youth have played a vital role in nation-building. Youth engagement in civic affairs is a significant component in strengthening democracies, initiating political development, and inspiring socio-environmental progress. In the Philippines, participation in the electoral process is a major indicator of youth civic engagement. A February 2021 survey among 7,139 college students from six PHINMA Education schools, across all programs and from all year levels, showed a positive attitude towards registration and voting. However, about 30% of students had not yet registered. This white paper discusses the initiatives of PHINMA Education, particularly its MULAT program, to nurture the socio-civic consciousness among the students and assist them in registering to vote in the 2022 national elections.
